What regrouting involves

Grout fills the gaps between tiles; sealant goes where tiles meet a bath, tray, worktop or another wall. When grout cracks, washes out or stains, water can get behind the tiles. We rake out the old grout, clean the joints and regrout, and we reseal the corners and edges at the same time so the whole area is sound.

We work across the South East, London and all of Scotland from our base in Crawley. Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, and we’re fully insured and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Problems we put right

  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Grout washed out in the shower
  • Water getting behind tiles through failed grout
  • Discoloured grout spoiling otherwise sound tiles

Where we work

  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Bathroom floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Tiled floors

How it works

  1. We check the tiles are sound; loose or hollow tiles are flagged before we start.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without damaging the tile edges.
  3. Joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints, then cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Grout and sealant do different jobs

Internal corners and the joint along a bath or tray must be flexible, so they get silicone. Grout there cracks as the bath or tray moves.

When tiles are loose

If tiles move or sound hollow, regrouting won’t fix the problem underneath. We’ll tell you before we start.

Why it’s worth doing now

Grout that has cracked or washed out lets water get behind the tiles, where it can loosen them and damage the wall. Stained grout makes a clean bathroom look tired. Regrouting fixes both without the cost and mess of retiling.

What affects the quote

We don’t publish set prices, because every job is different. Call or email us with a few details and we’ll give you a clear quote before we start. The main things that affect it are:

  • How many joints, rooms, windows or metres of joint there are
  • How much old sealant or grout has to come out, and how many layers
  • Mould, damage or movement that needs dealing with first
  • Access: stairs, height, ladders or work outside
  • The product the joint needs (sanitary, exterior, fire-rated, glazing or sand mastic)
  • For commercial sites, working hours and phasing

What a good quote includes

  • All the old sealant removed, not sealed over
  • The product named for each joint
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • How long before the area can be used
  • How your home or building will be protected
  • Who is doing the work, and that they’re insured

Aftercare

Ventilate the room after showers, squeegee or wipe the tiles when you can, and use a pH-neutral cleaner rather than harsh acids or bleach every day. Let the new grout cure for the time we give you before using the shower.

Regrouting: common questions

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes. Many jobs are just the shower walls, or just the grout lines that have failed.

Can you change the grout colour?

Regrouting is the time to change colour. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Do you reseal at the same time?

Usually, yes. The corners and edges should be silicone, and it makes sense to renew both together.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes. Every job comes with our one-year guarantee.

Do you give a price before you start?

Yes. Call or email us with a few details and we’ll give you a clear quote, so you know the price before any work starts.

Are you insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, and we’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
