Regrouting in Aberdeen
Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, or just the area that has failed. Either way, tiled areas in Aberdeen are handled the same careful way. We work on wet rooms, kitchen splashbacks and bathroom floors, and people most often call us about shower grout that has worn away and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor.
Aberdeen is in one of Scotland’s four big cities, where many tenement bathrooms were fitted into rooms that weren’t built for them. Rooms like that are often small and slow to dry out, which is hard on sealant and grout.
You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Aberdeen: your questions answered
I let a flat near Aberdeen station. Can you help?
Yes. We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.
Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Aberdeen?
Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.
Which products do you use?
The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.
Is it messy?
Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints, and the area is left clean when we finish.
What does regrouting cost?
Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. For a quick quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing and where.
What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?
Silicone. Grout is for the joints between tiles and moving joints need sealant.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We’re ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. After that, simply email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
What we do, step by step
Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we do not rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. For a tenement in Aberdeen, work inside your flat is between us and you, while shared parts may need the factor or neighbours to agree. Tell us which applies when you book.
- First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
- The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
- Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
- We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
- Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

When something else is needed
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
- A leaking shower valve or waste
Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.
What we seal
- Shower walls
- Tiled floors
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Wet rooms
- Bathroom floors

What affects the cost of regrouting
Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- How easy the joints are to reach
- Which sealant suits the joint
- Any working-time requirements on site
A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
Helping us quote
When you contact us, it’s useful to know:
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
Want a quote for regrouting? Please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details. You will know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.
Landlords, agents and businesses in Aberdeen
In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.
Letting agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements.
Looking after it afterwards
Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:
- Give the walls a quick rinse after use
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
Wipe the tiles down after a shower keeps water off the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window to help it dry out.
Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.
DIY versus a professional finish
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
Places near Aberdeen
What else we do in Aberdeen
Bathrooms and kitchens in Aberdeen
Aberdeen is within about 2 miles of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.
Homes close to Rutherford Church And Church Hall include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Letting a property close to Aberdeen station? Then a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Common problems we fix in Aberdeen
Soap scum and limescale build up on grout and stick to it. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.
Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:
- Grout washed out of a shower
- A grout colour that no longer suits the room
- Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
- Floor grout that will not come clean
If you look after a building such as Aberdeen Grammar School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether VAT is included
- What insurance they hold
- How much experience the applicator has
- What happens if the job turns out different
