Bathroom resealing near Rosemount

Surface by surface

Shower trays & enclosures

If a tray moves underfoot, new silicone will not last. We check for movement before we reseal, and if the tray needs refixing, we will say so.

Basins & vanity units

Vanity units have long, worktop-style joints against the wall. Water that gets behind can damage the unit, so a neat, continuous bead matters.

How we handle bathroom resealing in Rosemount

The secret of a lasting bead is the preparation. The old sealant is removed to the last smear, after which the joint is degreased and any mould treated. New silicone goes on only when the joint is fully dry. If you’re dealing with leaking joints on a shower screen and lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt, we can help, whatever the surface.

Stone-built tenements are part of every Scottish city, alongside suburban houses and modern blocks. With flats above and below, a leak from a tired seal can reach the flat underneath.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

Do you need bathroom resealing in Rosemount?

Older sealant shrinks and hardens. Along worktops it tends to pull back from the wall, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Hot pans and harsh cleaners do not help.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • A joint torn by a bath that flexes
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall

If you let a flat or house near Aberdeen station, fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

10 questions to ask before you book

The process

A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, do the work and clear up. Most jobs take around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. Parking in city streets around Rosemount can be tight or controlled, so it helps to know about permits or nearby bays. If you are in a flat, let us know how we get in at the street door.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

Advice

How to look after the new joints

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use
  • Do not let bottles sit on the bead
  • Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet

Give the silicone time to cure before it gets wet, which is normally around 24 hours. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.

A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning usually won’t remove it. Catching it early keeps it a simple reseal.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Rosemount

Rosemount is within about 2 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

In the older streets around Rutherford Church And Church Hall, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Managing a site like Aberdeen Grammar School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
