Bathroom resealing around Whitley Wood

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in. There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Whitley Wood. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.

For an older house near a landmark such as St Paul's Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. If you let a flat or house near Reading Green Park station, fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

FAQs for Whitley Wood

Do you work for landlords with property near Reading Green Park station?

Yes, we work for landlords and letting agents. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Will you come out to Whitley Wood?

Yes, we do. We work across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

How long before the new sealant can get wet?

Silicone is touch-dry quite quickly, but it takes longer to cure. Keep water off it for around 24 hours, or as long as we advise for that product.

Do you guarantee your resealing?

Yes, a 12-month guarantee. Good ventilation and gentle cleaning help it last.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

White, clear and a range of colours are available. Where the joint is on show, we match it to the surface.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area.

Are you insured?

Yes, we are fully insured.

What information do you need?

Let us know what needs doing and where, plus photos if you have them. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.

The process

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we’re working on, so you can carry on as normal. The job normally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. In a smaller place like Whitley Wood, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you’re told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Tell us if parking is tricky

Advice

Common problems we fix in Whitley Wood

Silicone doesn’t last for ever. Every shower, every splash and every wipe with a cleaner take their toll over the years, so its life depends on how the room is used, cleaned and aired.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off
  • A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
  • A joint torn by a bath that flexes
  • Water escaping at the shower enclosure

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Geoffrey Field Infant School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

What your quote should include

  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • What preparation is included
  • Whether you can choose the colour
  • How long the guarantee is

Our hiring checklist

Keeping the joints in good condition

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Wait for the cure time we give you
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
  • Do not leave water standing on kitchen joints

Clean the silicone with care: a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth is enough. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.

Do not wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Sealant is a maintenance item, like the paint on a window frame, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • How many areas need sealing
  • How much there is to do
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.

Asking for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Whether it has been sealed before

To get a quote, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.

Landlord and commercial work in Whitley Wood

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

For anyone letting property in or around Whitley Wood, jobs at different addresses can go on one quote. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs, and photos by email help.

What the job involves on each surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Kitchen joints need more degreasing than bathroom ones, because cooking grease stops sealant bonding. The extra cleaning is what makes the bead last.

Sinks & splashbacks

Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. It’s resealed in white, clear or a colour to suit.

What we cannot put right

We’d rather tell you now than do work that will not last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)

If you’re not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
