Bathroom resealing in Rutherglen, done properly
With over 20 years in the trade, we reseal baths, showers and kitchens in homes across Rutherglen. We are fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and every job carries our one-year guarantee. Common call-outs are for black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off and two layers of silicone, both failing, across basins & vanity units, wet rooms and sinks & splashbacks.
A bathroom in a place like Rutherglen gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.
Every job is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in South Lanarkshire.

Looking after it afterwards
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
- Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
- Do not leave water standing on kitchen joints
- Squeegee the walls and tray after use
Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.
A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.
Rutherglen: your questions answered
Is Rutherglen in your area for bathroom resealing?
Yes, Rutherglen is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.
I let a flat near Rutherglen station. Can you help?
Yes, we work for landlords and agents. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before work begins.
How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?
Allow a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. You’ll know how long to expect before we start.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We are fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.
How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?
After around 24 hours in most cases. You’ll get the exact cure time before we leave.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes, every time. New sealant won’t bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes. Just list everything you need and you will get one quote.
Can I do it myself?
That depends on the joint. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional.
What we’re called out for in Rutherglen
Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Steamy rooms that do not dry out give mould all the damp it needs, and mould that has grown into the silicone normally will not clean off.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
- Black spots spreading through the bead
- Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
- A joint torn by a bath that flexes
If you live in an older home near Stonelaw Parish Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
Questions to ask before you book
- Is VAT in the price?
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- What guarantee comes with the work
- Who turns up on the day
Rutherglen homes and their sealant
In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
Rented homes near Rutherglen station change hands often, and mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets. Schools such as Stonelaw High School are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

Honest limits
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
- Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
If you are not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
What we seal
- Shower trays & enclosures
- Baths
- Wet rooms
- Sinks & splashbacks
- Kitchen worktops & upstands
- Basins & vanity units
Why deal with it now?
Fresh sealant smartens a bathroom or kitchen with very little disruption, which helps when a home is being let or put on the market. Lumpy sealant with smears on the tiles has the opposite effect. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.
Why us?
- A sealant colour to suit the surroundings
- Approved under the ARBOMaster scheme
- White, clear, grey or coloured to suit, where the product allows
- Sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive in wet areas

What happens on the day
When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.
- First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
- Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
- The bead is tooled smooth and you’re told the cure time, generally around 24 hours.
Before we arrive
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Mention any tricky access
- Clear items away from the joints we are working on

DIY versus a professional finish
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly.
