Bathroom resealing in Nursling, done properly

Mr Mastic has more than 20 years’ experience of sealant work, and our applicators reseal bathrooms and kitchens across Nursling. We are ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and the work comes with a 12-month guarantee. If you are dealing with smears of silicone across the tiles and failed sealant on the screen profile, we can put it right.

Even in a smaller place like Nursling, bathrooms and kitchens see heavy daily use. Whether it’s a cottage bathroom or a newer en suite, the approach is the same: old sealant or grout cut out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh finish laid.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once the job is done.

What happens if it’s left?

Most of the work in a good reseal happens before any silicone goes on: cutting out every trace of the old bead, cleaning, treating mould and letting the joint dry. Without that preparation, the new bead won’t last. Homes in smaller places like Nursling can face more weather, and failed outside joints let damp into walls. Inside, a split seal lets water into floors and panels just as it would anywhere.

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Aftercare tips

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries

Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

Different surfaces, different methods

Sinks & splashbacks

Next to the sink, the sealant has to cope with constant water, and a food-safe product where it’s needed. The joint is laid neatly so it’s easy to wipe.

Basins & vanity units

The back of a basin gets wet every time someone washes. Corners behind basins are where mould tends to start, so it’s cut out and renewed just like a bath joint.

When something else is needed

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Failed grout lines across the wall
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think.

What we seal

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Wet rooms

Should I try it myself first?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Nursling homes and their sealant

Nursling is within about 2 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Homes close to Lord's Hill Church include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Nursling Church of England Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. For landlords with property near Redbridge station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.

FAQs for Nursling

Do you cover Nursling for bathroom resealing?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Nursling is part of that. Just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Redbridge station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details for a clear quote.

Will it make a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No. Sealing over the top looks fine for a few weeks, then lifts. We remove the old bead completely before resealing.

Does the resealing come with a guarantee?

Yes. Every job carries our one-year guarantee.

What should I tell you?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. Photos by email help too.

Can mouldy silicone be sorted out?

Yes, by replacing the sealant. Sprays can fade the marks, but cutting it out and resealing is what lasts. Good ventilation helps keep it away.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is normally more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

How the visit works

We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower and we leave things clean and tidy. Parking around Nursling is generally easier than in a town centre, but mention any lanes, gates or long drives. If the job is outside, tell us about side access and how high the joints are.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
