How we quote for bathroom resealing

The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The amount of work
  • The type of sealant required

Leaving a failed joint generally makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Helping us quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • The type of property

Call for a quick quote, or email us if that is easier. Describe what needs sealing and we will talk you through the work.

How we handle bathroom resealing in Lower Earley

A reseal only lasts if the joint is properly prepared. Every bit of old silicone comes out, down to the thin film left on the tiles, after which the joint is degreased and any mould treated. New silicone goes on only when the joint is fully dry. We work on kitchen worktops & upstands, wet rooms and sinks & splashbacks, and the jobs we see most are failed sealant on the screen profile and gaps between the worktop and the wall.

In a smaller place like Lower Earley, homes are mostly houses and bungalows rather than flats, some older and some much newer. Bathrooms and kitchens here get the same daily wear as anywhere, and the sealant and grout show it first.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee.

When to call us in Lower Earley

Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Bathrooms without good ventilation keep the silicone damp for hours, and mould that has grown into the silicone normally won’t clean off.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • Splits where the tray meets the wall
  • Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off
  • Water escaping at the shower enclosure

Schools such as Radstock Primary School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Surface by surface

Shower trays & enclosures

There are normally two jobs in a shower: the tray-to-wall joint and the enclosure joints. Both get soaked every time the shower runs, so both are resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Wet rooms

A wet room floor and its walls can move independently, so the corners need a flexible seal, not grout. Cracked grout in a corner can be cut out and replaced with silicone.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

The process

Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and tidy away. Most jobs take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. A visit to Lower Earley is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Outdoor jobs depend on a dry day, since sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. We tidy up and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Advice

How to look after the new joints

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:

  • Keep bottles off the sealant line
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner

Treat the new bead gently when you clean: a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth is enough. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.

A failed kitchen joint is easy to miss. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, and the board underneath can swell. A reseal in time can save the worktop.

Leave it or put it right?

A quick bead over the top of the old one might look better for a while, but it cannot stick to what’s underneath. It lifts, traps water and grows mould behind it. Around Lower Earley, water from a failed joint in an older home can soak into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the sealant itself.

Doing several joints on one visit is generally more efficient than separate visits. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.
