Bathroom resealing in Eastbourne, done properly

A shower joint gets soaked every day. Trays, enclosures, screen profiles and wet room floors all need a flexible, waterproof seal. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. Typical jobs include leaking joints on a shower screen and leaks into the floor or ceiling below, on kitchen worktops & upstands, basins & vanity units and baths.

A place the size of Eastbourne has homes of every age, from older terraces to town-centre flats and newer developments. Whatever the age of the home, sealant and grout in bathrooms and kitchens wear out in the end.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, large or small.

Eastbourne homes and their sealant

Eastbourne is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Homes close to St Andrew include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Schools such as Stafford Junior School are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. If you let a flat or house near Hampden Park station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

What sealant work can’t fix

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Where we work in Eastbourne

Why it’s worth doing now in Eastbourne

Dealing with sealant early is a short job: it takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. Left until water gets through, the job can grow to lifting panels, drying out and decorating. For businesses in Eastbourne, a room closed because of a leak or mould costs more than the sealant, so it pays to replace failing joints before they get that far.

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You’ll know the price before we begin.

What the job involves on each surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Kitchen joints need more degreasing than bathroom ones, because cooking grease stops sealant bonding. Proper degreasing is what helps the new joint last.

Baths

Most bath leaks begin along the long edge, particularly where there’s a shower over the bath. We finish it with a single, even bead of anti-fungal silicone, tooled so water can’t sit on it.

Should I try it myself first?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple:

  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Wait for the cure time we give you
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then

Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Avoid scouring pads and anything sharp, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.

Don’t wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and renewing it as soon as it fails protects everything around it.

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

How the visit works

Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, do the work and clear up. It usually takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. Jobs in a place the size of Eastbourne range from town-centre flats to offices and family homes. Whichever it is, tell us how to get in, where to park and where the work is.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
