About our bathroom resealing in Paisley

Across Paisley, the joints we reseal are the ones that fail in any home: the long edge of the bath, the base of the shower tray, the back of the basin and the line along the worktop. Every joint is cut out, cleaned and left dry before it’s resealed. Typical jobs include new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting and water getting behind the bath panel, across sinks & splashbacks, kitchen worktops & upstands and shower trays & enclosures.

Homes in a town like Paisley range from flats in older buildings to family houses on newer estates. In every one, the usual problems are mould in the bead, gaps where things have moved and tired grout.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Paisley

Do you cover Paisley for bathroom resealing?

Yes, Paisley is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Do you work in hotels near Paisley?

Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, and it’s something we never do.

What should I tell you?

A short description and the location, with photos by email if possible. If we need more, we’ll ask.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

White, clear and a range of colours are available. Where the joint is on show, we match it to the surface.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

How long will the resealing take?

One bath or shower is around two hours’ work, old sealant removal included. A full bathroom and kitchen can take most of a day.

How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in Paisley?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. For a quick quote, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing and where.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Aftercare tips

Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:

  • Do not leave water standing on kitchen joints
  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Do not let bottles sit on the bead
  • Keep the fan on for a while after bathing

In a kitchen, do not let water sit along the back of the worktop and keep hot pans away from the silicone. A dry joint lasts longer.

There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

Common problems we fix in Paisley

Older sealant shrinks and hardens. In kitchens it often shrinks away from the back edge, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Heat from the hob and strong sprays speed it along.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off

In the older streets around St Luke's Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

What to look for in a quote

  • What product goes in the joint
  • What guarantee comes with the work
  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • What insurance they hold

What happens if it’s left?

Sorting it now is quick: it takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. Left until water gets through, the job can grow to lifting panels, drying out and decorating. If you live in a flat in Paisley, failed sealant can send water to the neighbours below, and that’s much harder to put right.

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • The amount of work
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • The product the joint needs

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What we need to know

You don’t need to know the technical terms. It helps if you can tell us:

  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

Want a quote for bathroom resealing? Please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details. You’ll know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

What sealant work can’t fix

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units

What happens on the day

All our tools and materials come with us in the van. Once we have agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. A visit in Paisley needs three things planned: access, parking and where the work is. Outside work depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

Paisley homes and their sealant

Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. Paisley has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Castlehead High School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. Rented homes near Paisley Canal station change hands often, and fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.
