Bathroom resealing in Alyth

With over 20 years in the trade, we reseal baths, showers and kitchens in homes across Alyth. We’re ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and every job carries our 12-month guarantee. Typical jobs include failed sealant on the screen profile and damp behind the bath or under the tray, on kitchen worktops & upstands, sinks & splashbacks and shower trays & enclosures.

In and around a place like Alyth, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

Our work is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Different surfaces, different methods

Shower trays & enclosures

The vertical joint where a screen profile meets the wall is a common leak point. It’s resealed along with the tray joints, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.

Wet rooms

A wet room floor and its walls can move independently, so the internal corners need silicone rather than grout. Where grout in a corner has cracked, we can replace it with sealant.

Landlord and commercial work in Alyth

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. We can quote for more than one property at once.

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance.

Why it’s worth doing now in Alyth

Leaving a split or mouldy bead only stores up trouble. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, turning a small job into a building repair. In a place like Alyth, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first.

How to look after the new joints

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Keep the fan on for a while after bathing

Don’t stand bottles along the bead, as they hold water against it. A quick squeegee after showering helps the joint dry.

Don’t wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

Do you need bathroom resealing in Alyth?

Black mould is behind a lot of resealing. Steamy rooms that do not dry out give mould all the damp it needs, and once it has grown into the bead, cleaning rarely gets it out.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • A joint torn by a bath that flexes
  • Water escaping at the shower enclosure
  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
  • Black spots spreading through the bead

Around Alyth, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Bathroom resealing in Alyth: local notes

Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. Alyth has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room.

Homes close to Parish Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Should I try it myself first?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

We’re based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.

How it works

Most of a good job is in the preparation, and we don’t rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it usually takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. Somewhere like Alyth may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
  3. The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, generally after around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
