Bathroom resealing in Inverclyde: how it works
With over 20 years in the trade, we reseal baths, showers and kitchens in homes across Inverclyde. We are fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and every job carries our one-year guarantee. Common call-outs are for gaps between the worktop and the wall and new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting, on basins & vanity units, kitchen worktops & upstands and sinks & splashbacks.
You don’t need to clear the whole room or building, only the area right around the joints. Everything nearby is protected, and the work takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included in most cases.
- We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
- Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
- We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

Near you in Greenock
Around Greenock, our work takes us to homes and buildings near Watt Library, The James Watt pub and Wellington Academy. Greenock has its own railway station: Drumfrochar station. Well-known places in the area include McLean Museum and Art Gallery (0.6 miles north-east) and Oak Mall (0.7 miles north-east). Green spaces nearby include Lyle Hill.
Bathroom resealing across Inverclyde: local notes
In Inverclyde, bathroom resealing takes in flats, houses, rentals and businesses, from Greenock, Port Glasgow and Gourock to the quieter places in between. The method is the same everywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh finish laid.
Homes in Scotland come with their own details: harled walls, sash and case windows and, in the larger towns and cities, tenements. We work across Scotland, including Inverclyde. Inverclyde includes coastal places, where outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland. Joints on seaward walls tend to fail first.
Greenock: Letting a property close to Drumfrochar station? Then mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets. Schools such as Wellington Academy are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
How the job changes by surface
Kitchen worktops & upstands
Upstands and back edges are cut out, cleaned of grease and resealed, since cooking leaves a film that stops silicone sticking. The extra cleaning is what makes the bead last.
Shower trays & enclosures
Water often gets past the wall profile of a shower enclosure. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.
Honest limits
It helps to know what we cannot do:
- Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
- A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
- A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported
How to look after the new joints
Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:
- Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
- Give the silicone its full cure time
- Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
- Squeegee the walls and tray after use
Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint and keep hot pans off the bead. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.
There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Sealant is a maintenance item, like the paint on a window frame, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.
DIY versus a professional finish
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
What we’re called out for in Inverclyde
With age, silicone loses its stretch. Along worktops it tends to pull back from the wall, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Hot pans and harsh cleaners don’t help.
Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:
- Leaking joints on a shower screen
- Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
- Mouldy sealant that has gone black
- A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
Inverclyde questions
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.
What sealant do you use?
Each joint gets the product that suits it. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we’ll explain our choice.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes. We give a 12-month guarantee on every job, and we are fully insured.
Do the sealants smell?
That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned.
Can you just seal over the old silicone?
No. Sealing over the top looks fine for a few weeks, then lifts. We remove the old bead completely before resealing.
Will you leave a mess?
Tidy work is part of the job. Nearby surfaces are protected.
