How bathroom resealing works in Aberdeenshire
A bead that has gone black, split or come away is worth sorting before it lets water through. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a photo of the joints, and you will get a clear quote before any work starts. Common call-outs are for black spots spreading through the bead and sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away, on kitchen worktops & upstands, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures.
The work is kept neat and contained to the area we are working on, so you can carry on as normal. Expect the work to take around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go.
- We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
- Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
- Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
- When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
- We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.
What you will pay

Around Peterhead
Around Peterhead, our work takes us to homes and buildings near Peterhead and The Cross Keys pub, among other places. Nearby you will also find Peterhead Community Hospital (within half a mile south-east) and Keith Inch Castle (1.1 miles east). Open spaces near Peterhead include Meet Hill.
Bathrooms and kitchens across Aberdeenshire
Aberdeenshire has homes of every age, old and new, and in places like Peterhead, Inverurie and Montrose there’s plenty of rented property too. Bathroom resealing keeps bathrooms and kitchens watertight and looking cared for.
Scottish weather is hard on outside joints, especially in the wetter west, while generally soft water means less limescale indoors but no less mould. Sealants for jobs in Aberdeenshire are chosen with that in mind. Parts of Aberdeenshire are on or near the coast, where wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt air are hard on outside sealant. Walls facing the sea are generally the first to need attention.
Peterhead: For jobs in and around Peterhead, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish. Around Peterhead, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.
Should I try it myself first?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly.
Common problems we fix in Aberdeenshire
Sealing over old silicone is one of the commonest mistakes we find. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, so it peels, leaks and hides mould behind it.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
- Water escaping at the shower enclosure
- Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
- Mouldy sealant that has gone black
Leave it or put it right?
Leaving a split or mouldy bead only stores up trouble. Water that gets behind a bath soaks into the floor, the panel and sometimes the ceiling below, and that is a far bigger job than a reseal.
Questions to ask before you book
- The length of the guarantee
- Who turns up on the day
- How the joint is cleaned and prepared
- What the quote includes, VAT included or not
Quotes for bathroom resealing in Aberdeenshire
For a quick quote, just ask. What matters most is:
- The size of the job
- When we can work, for business premises
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- Access and height
We don’t show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:
- Where the property is
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- A few pictures by email, if you can
- The type of property
For bathroom resealing in Aberdeenshire, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk. A short description of the job and where it is helps us quote, and you’ll get a clear quote before we start.
Keeping the joints in good condition
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
- Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
- Move toiletries away from the joint
- Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint and keep hot pans off the bead. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.
Watch for the early signs: lifting ends, gaps, dark shadows under the bead or a stain downstairs. If you spot one, it’s time to reseal.
Your questions about bathroom resealing in Aberdeenshire
Are you fully insured?
Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we can confirm the details when we quote.
Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?
Yes, often alongside a bathroom. Next to the sink we use a food-safe product where it’s needed.
Do I have to be there?
For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?
Yes, by replacing the sealant. Cleaning products may lighten it, but the lasting fix is new anti-fungal silicone on a clean, treated joint. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.
What sealant do you use?
We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help too.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status, and we are fully insured.
